The Rehabilitation team provides a range of services to those who are Deaf and hard of hearing. Our Speech Pathologists offer specialist assistance with tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and hearing loss management:

Hearing Loss Rehabilitation Sessions

A rehabilitation session is an important component in hearing loss management, whether or not you wear a hearing aid. At hearservice you will recieve a free rehabilitation session as part of your fitting program.

Managing Your Hearing Loss Courses

Managing Your Hearing Loss Courses provide you with a range of strategies designed to maximise communication. Courses include:

Speech reading (Lipreading)
Conversational strategies
Hearing tactics
Effective communication strategies
Telephone tactics
Relaxation techniques.

Tinnitus Management Sessions

Tinnitus is any sound, not present externally which is heard in one or both ears or in the head. It is most commonly heard as a ringing or hissing (cicada-like) noise. You can learn to manage your response to tinnitus effectively over time with professional assistance.

Hearing Awareness in the Community

The Rehabilitation Team provides education on hearing loss management to TAFEs, employers and interested community groups. The aim is to understand hearing loss and its implications, providing strategies to minimise the impact on the individual and those around them. The team also provides information about noise induced hearing loss and prevention initiatives.

Free Adult Hearing Checks

Free adult hearing checks are held regularly at community health centres across Melbourne. If required, a referral is provided for a full hearing assessment.
